'Zu Stramm' is my graduation film, made @ KASK, 2006.
The production process took one year and was very intens,
during this process I worked hard with my teachers
and a musician to obtain the wanted result.
The theme handles a small irritation evolving into a
euphoric moment, 1 man against all the rest and
a system that imposes routine, there's also a small
forthcoming of sadism.
The storytelling is very suggestive because I wanted
the viewer to see further than he can look, my
intention was to create an estranging atmosphere
in wich the viewer is guided by the soundwall and
the graphics or the audio visual composition.
The technique is 2d animation, edited with Toonz.
The character design originates from my personal
drawing style aswell as the idea of a fleshy, pulpy
feeling in the sound effects.
There is a contrast in the graphics and the line-
drawings of the animation, also to create an
accent on the vulnerable, fleshy figures.
The process of making the soundtrack was one
of the most learnfull experiences I had during my
course. Willem Dedeygere was my musician,
together we worked hard to get to understand
eachother so we could make it work.
One of the test tracks for the soundwall can be
listened to HERE.
